Rachel Atherton to undergo surgery

Published on May 2, 2009

“Unfortunately Rach’s latest EMG test has shown that the nerve in her shoulder has seen little improvement over the past four weeks and so the surgeon has taken the decision to operate.

Recovery time is expected to be around two to three months, so we’re hoping she will be back in time for the World’s.

Fans will still be able to see Rachel on the circuit as she’ll be joining the Animal Commencal team in her temporary role as race commentator on the Nissan UCI World Cup Series for Freecaster.tv. “

Animal Commencal team director Dan Brown said: “The nerve in Rachel’s shoulder has seen little improvement over the past four weeks so the surgeon has taken the decision to operate. We’re hoping Rachel will be back in training in around three to four months so there’s still a chance she will compete at the World Championships in August.

We hope Rachel all the best with her recovery which you can follow here animalcommencal.tv/rachel/blog/ and hope that she is back in time for the Wolds in the not so distant future.
