Peran Clemence – Cornwall’s latest offering.
Published on May 20, 2009
If you said to 80% of the country what makes Cornwall so famous, I reckon they would all reply Cornish pastys.

To the dirt jump scene Cornwall is famous for one of the best pay to ride Dirt Jump parks in the UK “The Track”. Boasting loads of sets of Dirt Jumps, a slope-style line and a 4x/BMX track it wasn’t going to be long before we started to see DJ talent coming from the bottom of the country.
Recently brought to my attention by Fox Europe team manager Wayne Dobson was young Kona/Fox rider Peran Clemence.
Peran is part of the Digger crew at The Track and gets to spend quite a bit of time ripping up the dirt jumps and slope-style lines at the park in between styling new lines for you to all ride. We took time out to see what Peran is going to be up to this year.

HuckMonkey. So what got you in to riding bikes and at what age.
Peran Clemence. My eldest brother and cousin both ride, I just sort of went along from the age of 12, they are nutter freeriders so going big early on was just what they did and I copied them.
HM. What was your first bike
PC First real jump bike KONA STUFF 24 it was just the coolest bike to start jumping on.
HM. Your a local to The Track in Cornwall, How much has having such an awesome riding spot on your doorstep helped you with your trick bag and riding style.
PC. It has been a massive help having THE TRACK on my doorstep as I am one of the digger crew I get to ride pretty much all the time.
HM. I noticed you never rode in the KOD at the Track invitational, are you going to be riding the other rounds of KOD, would it not have been a good idea to start the series on your home trails.-
PC. I have spent the last 3 months digging and preparing the TRACK for the event working till late most nights after school and was just knackered. We had a bad spell of rain just before the event which washed out quite a lot of THE TRACK so I was flat out with Steve and the other diggers up until the actual day of the event. I wanted to enter both the KOD and the Invitational Slope style but really want, to move into slope style (the bigger the jump the better), it was a chance of a lifetime really, to be riding against the likes of Chopper and Lluis, so that was my decision made and it really paid off, as Lluis and Chopper invited me on a road trip with them straight after the event around the south with MBUK. Meeting and riding with the people on the posters I have on the walls of my bedroom was really strange, but cool as.
HM. How do you think you performed in the recent Slope style comp at the invitational, was that your first comp against some of the UK’s big dogs.
PC. I feel I held my own quite well, I had a lot of the trail riders come up to me after telling me how well I did. That’s what matters really when the people you look up to are happy for you and telling you, you done good.
HM. Now your riding pro category and flying the Kona and Fox Clothing flag does it worry you about having to ride against the likes of Pilgrim, Mcdermot, Chopper, Ren and the other pro riders. (I know a few of the HM riders were a bit concerned as its also their first year on the scene).
PC. Really weird riding against all the people you see and read about in magazines at 15 is just cool as, although it does play on your mind, but I ride for fun and I know that’s the same for most riders.
HM. Do you plan to ride any comps abroad this year or are you concentrating on the UK comps.
PC. I will be riding in all the comps I can get to anywhere, I just want to ride and have fun. I was hoping to go to Europe later this year, more just to ride new places than to compete but if there was something on I would enter. I will be doing the rest of the KOD rounds including the NASS event which I am really looking forward to.
HM. What would be the contents of an Ideal day for you.
PC. Waking up to sunny weather with no wind, riding big trails, chilling with my mates and spending the evening with my girlfriend Megan.
HM. What do you do when your not on the bike.
PC. Living in Cornwall I get to spend a lot of time in the water, but most of the time with my girlfriend.
HM. If you could invent a riding component or riding aid to help you with your riding what would you invent.
PC. A pop-up bio-dome. It’s the worst thing about riding in the UK wind and rain.
HM. Anyone you would like to thank?
PC.KONA, FOX, BIKE CHAIN, THE-TRACK AND MY DAD.
